The expert UK physiotherapist Benoy Matthews warns that the amount of hip and
joints problems in yoga teachers is increasing, mostly in those between 40 and 42
years old. The reason comes from the confusion between pain and stiffness that
leads these teachers to expensive hip treatments or, in the worst cases, hip
surgery.
Dr. Matthews explains that the body has limits and most of the time, these people
don't respect them by pushing through, hurting by pressure their joints. This kind of
injuries could even lead to paralysis in extreme cases.
But that does not mean that yoga is bad for health, it is only bad practiced so Dr.
Matthews suggest a solution by assessing yoga teachers to avoid or prevent bad
hip injuries and continue to practice this spiritual sport.
Otherwise, physical problems are not the only ones. Yoga is not always practiced
for healthiness and spirituality. There is a lot of people who practice it for ego,
erasing all the spiritual and mind-health context of this activity.
In short, yoga is not bad, if practiced with a good attitude and being a very open
person.
